HYFIN and The Sugar Maple to host “Artistic Anarchy: An Evening of Anime x Art x Beats x Sake” on May 27 

Eclectic event to celebration anime culture and community while supporting public radio 

MILWAUKEE (May 10, 2023) – HYFIN, an Urban Alternative channel from Radio Milwaukee (WYMS-88.9FM HD2), and The Sugar Maple are proud to present “Artistic Anarchy: An Evening of Anime x Art x Beats x Sake,” the station announced Wednesday. 

The event will be held on Saturday, May 27 from 5 to 10 p.m. at The Sugar Maple, 441 E. Lincoln Ave.

Named after an episode of Samurai Champloo’s popular anime series, “Artistic Anarchy” promises to be a unique event for anime fans and art enthusiasts alike. Local artists will showcase their anime-inspired work, providing an opportunity for attendees to appreciate and support local talent.

Artists interested in participating in the exhibition should direct message The Sugar Maple on Instagram (@thesugarmaple) with their name, email address, link to portfolio and proposed work for the show. All materials and mediums are welcome as long as work adheres to the anime theme. Work will be on display from May 27 through June 1 and the deadline for submission is Tuesday, May 16 at  8 p.m. 

In addition to the art exhibition, Artistic Anarchy will feature an anime costume contest; attendees are encouraged to dress up as their favorite characters and compete for prizes. Throughout the evening, HYFIN’s Program Director Tarik Moody will spin an anime-inspired soundtrack of music. 

To complement the programming, the Sugar Maple, a Bay View establishment known for its eclectic selection of craft beer, will offer a curated selection of sake, sake-inspired cocktails, and Japanese beer. The event will also feature food from local vendors on-site. 

Tickets for Artistic Anarchy are available for purchase online at hyfin.funraise.org for $10 in advance and $15 at the door, and proceeds from the event will support HYFIN.
