In a fusion of two artistic realms, HYFIN is set to host an exceptional event titled “Samples & Samples.” Scheduled for Saturday, December 9th, 2023, from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM at the Radio Milwaukee headquarters in Milwaukee, this evening promises a unique sensory experience that marries the world of wine and music like never before.

Unveiling “Samples & Samples”

“Samples & Samples” is not your typical wine-pairing event. It’s an immersive journey into the realms of flavor and melody, curated by acclaimed sommelier, Derrick C. Westbrook. As the former Beverage Director of the Michelin-starred restaurant Elizabeth in Chicago, Westbrook brings a wealth of expertise to the table.

This one-of-a-kind experience will lead attendees through a carefully crafted exploration, uncovering the intriguing parallels between wine and music. As an added treat, DJ oddCouple will provide the perfect musical backdrop, expertly synchronized with Westbrook’s wine selections.

Meet Derrick C. Westbrook: A Trailblazer in Wine

Derrick Westbrook

Derrick C. Westbrook’s journey in the world of wine has been nothing short of extraordinary. His “Samples & Samples” tour has garnered widespread acclaim, with sold-out shows at City Winery locations across the United States. Notably, he was honored as a “40 Under 40 Tastemaker” by Wine Enthusiast magazine, marking him as the first African-American in the wine industry to grace the publication’s cover.

Westbrook’s mission is clear: to demystify the world of wine and make it accessible and relatable to everyday consumers. Through a blend of traditional and experiential learning, he leverages his extensive knowledge to create an event that is both enlightening and enjoyable.

“Most of us don’t realize the strong relationship between music and wine,” Westbrook explains. “Genres like hip-hop, pop, jazz, folk, and soul music often combine new and old music samples to create a fresh and engaging product. Wine draws on the same ideology, using age-old techniques fused with new ideas to create something delightful both in its youth and as it ages.”

HYFIN’s Legacy of Engaging Events

HYFIN, since its inception, has consistently been a source of creativity and engagement for Radio Milwaukee’s Urban Alternative station listeners and the broader community. Events like “Samples & Samples” exemplify their commitment to creating memorable and immersive experiences.

Tarik Moody, Radio Milwaukee Digital Director, expresses his excitement, stating, “HYFIN is thrilled to bring this unique experience to Milwaukee. The blend of wine and music is sure to expand our attendees’ horizons and create a deeper connection to both elements of the event.”
