This Black-Owned Friday is not just about a day of shopping; it’s a movement to support Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs. Keke Palmer leads this charge with her anthem “Black-Owned Friday (100% Supporting),” a reimagined version of the ’90s classic “100% Pure Love” by Crystal Waters. The accompanying video, directed by Andre Muir, features a variety of Black-owned businesses, from coffee shops to clothing stores.
Google is providing resources to help these businesses shine. Business owners can add the Black-owned business attribute to their Google Maps and Search profiles, making them more visible to potential customers. The free Product Studio suite of AI-powered tools helps create compelling product images. Moreover, a digital workshop by Gilberto Herrera offers insights into selling online with e-commerce tools. Google also provides free images for social media to promote Black-owned businesses.
Lastly, the ByBlack Platform, powered by the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc. and presented by American Express, is a national directory and certifications program. This platform will provide Black entrepreneurs with new customer outreach opportunities and unlock contracting possibilities.
Aligning with this initiative, HYFIN, Milwaukee’s Urban Alternative station, is hosting the 2nd Annual Blackity Black Holiday Market on November 25, 2023. Located at Turner Hall Ballroom in Milwaukee, this event celebrates Small Business Saturday by supporting locally owned businesses. The market will feature over 50 vendors, performances by Black Nativity, Crysy B, and the Ko-Thi Dance Company, and music curated by HYFIN DJ ABIZZZ. A special visit from Santa, Mrs. Claus, and Elves, along with a Santa letter writing station, adds a festive touch. Additionally, attendees can enjoy food from CityTins HYFIN Edition Restaurants and access resources from local non-profits, financial institutions, and mental health resources.
This Black-Owned Friday and the Blackity Black Holiday Market provide wonderful opportunities to support Black-owned businesses. By shopping at these businesses and participating in events like HYFIN’s market, you’re contributing to a more diverse and inclusive economy. Let’s show our support for these entrepreneurs, not just on Black-Owned Friday but every day.
