In a groundbreaking move for digital media, the launch of BLKFAM marks a significant milestone as the first and only Black-owned, Black-focused family streaming platform. Co-founded by digital media veteran Larry Adams and backed by entertainment titan Whoopi Goldberg, BLKFAM is set to revolutionize the way Black families engage with media, offering a rich tapestry of content that entertains, educates, and empowers.

Amidst a landscape where Black audiences have historically been underserved and misrepresented, BLKFAM emerges as a beacon of radical diversity, equity, inclusion, and empowerment. With an extensive library that boasts over 20 syndicated series, 1000+ hours of new animation, and hundreds of hours of original music-driven content, the platform is a treasure trove of authentic stories that reflect the true diversity of the Black experience.

The significance of BLKFAM’s launch cannot be overstated. Recent Nielsen data underscores a glaring gap in the market, revealing that despite being the most media-engaged demographic, Black viewers often find themselves marginalized in mainstream media narratives. BLKFAM seeks to address this disparity head-on, providing a space where Black families can see themselves represented in all their complexity and vibrancy.

At the helm of this visionary venture is Larry Adams, whose ambition is to create a world where his children, and Black children everywhere, can see themselves reflected in the stories they watch. “Black culture and content is so often stereotyped, siloed or written off – so I wanted to create a platform where my kids and I can be entertained without having to face those same daily biases,” Adams explains. Through a meticulous curation process, driven by data and AI, BLKFAM is poised to deliver content that resonates deeply with its audience, fostering a sense of belonging and representation.

Whoopi Goldberg’s involvement as an equity partner and creative force adds a layer of prestige and promise to the platform. An EGOT winner and a revered figure in the entertainment industry, Goldberg’s commitment to BLKFAM underscores the platform’s potential to be a transformative force in media. “I am honored to partner with BLKFAM to assist in the creative direction of curated diverse content – for Black culture to be brought to broader audiences,” says Goldberg.

In addition to its rich content offering, BLKFAM has forged strategic partnerships to amplify stories from the global Black diaspora. Collaborations with The Africa Channel, PLAYWATCH KIDS, and ATTN: promise to bring a diverse array of educational, entertaining, and empowering content to the platform, from animated adventures like Gabby Galactic and Marvelous Light to documentary-style explorations of Black history.

As BLKFAM rolls out across various platforms, including iOS, Android, and major streaming services, its impact is poised to be both immediate and enduring. “Ultimately this platform will impact our children, and our children’s children,” says Jimmy Jenkins, owner at Playwatch, Inc. In a world hungry for authentic representation and stories that uplift and inspire, BLKFAM stands as a pioneering force, ready to redefine the landscape of Black family entertainment.
