UW-Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts announces the opening of Pipeline. This compassionate and relevant playdemonstrates a mother’s struggle to secure the best future for her son while balancing the desires of the community that molded him.
“This is not a lighthearted play, but it is an important one,” said Katie Avila Loughmiller, Director of Pipeline.
The intimacy of this timely conversation comes to the Kenilworth Five-0-Eight stage and raises challenging questions about race, class, parental responsibility, and the state of American education.
“Working on this play has reinforced that my love will only go so far, that I won’t always have the answers and that my son [will] still grow up in a society that is often set up for him to mess up,” added Avila Loughmiller.
Written by Dominique Morisseau, one of America’s most thoughtful and widely produced contemporary playwrights, and directed by Katie Avila Loughmiller, local artist and lecturer in the theatre department at UW-Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts. Pipeline features student-actors and student-designers from the department as well.
