This week’s HYFIN’s must-listen new albums showcase diverse musical talent. From Tink’s introspective R&B to Salute’s electronic collaborations and Common & Pete Rock’s hip-hop fusion, these releases promise to engage and inspire. Join us as we explore Tink’s mature reflections in “Winter’s Diary 5,” salute’s driving momentum on “TRUE MAGIC,” and the timeless artistry of Common & Pete Rock on “The Auditorium, Vol. 1.” We’ll also delve into the reissued sounds of Jabula, bringing a piece of South African musical history to new audiences.

Tink Returns with “Winter’s Diary 5”

Chicago-based artist Tink has released “Winter’s Diary 5” via EMPIRE. The album marks the fifth installment in her mixtape series, which initially brought her to prominence over a decade ago. “Winter’s Diary 5” follows Tink’s recent albums “Hopeless Romantic,” “Pillow Talk,” and “Thanks 4 Nothing.” The project aims to capture a more mature perspective from the artist, now in her late twenties. Tink is set to join Jhené Aiko’s “The Magic Hour” arena tour as a supporting act, alongside Coi Leray, Umi, and Kiana Ledé.

Rema – HEIS

Nigerian artist Rema has released his second studio album, “HEIS,” marking a significant shift in his musical style. The 11-track project showcases a more intense and raw approach to Afrobeats, incorporating elements of psychedelic rock and hyper-pop. Leading singles “Benin Boys” featuring Shallipopi and “Hehehe” preceded the album’s release. “HEIS” represents Rema’s evolution from a teenage star to a 24-year-old artist challenging the conventions of global pop music.

salute Unveils “TRUE MAGIC”

Electronic producer salute has released “TRUE MAGIC” on Ninja Tune. The album features collaborations with artists including Disclosure, Rina Sawayama, and Empress Of. salute adopted a collaborative approach for this project, working with peers in a countryside house. The album’s concept draws inspiration from old Japanese car advertisements, creating a driving momentum throughout the tracks. salute is scheduled to perform album release shows in London and Manchester before embarking on European and North American tours.

Common and Pete Rock Collaborate on “The Auditorium, Vol. 1”

Hip-hop veterans Common and Pete Rock have joined forces for “The Auditorium, Vol. 1,” released via Loma Vista Recordings. The album pairs Common’s lyricism with Pete Rock’s production, aiming to blend elements of hip-hop’s past, present, and future. Common expressed that working with Pete Rock has been a long-held aspiration, while Pete Rock noted his excitement for the collaboration.

Jabula’s Self-Titled Album Reissued

Strut Records has reissued the self-titled album by Jabula, a South African ensemble formed in 1974 by musicians living in exile in England during the Apartheid era. The band, led by Julian Bahula, blends Afro-jazz and funk influences. Initially released in 1975, “Jabula” was the first of five albums the group produced between 1975 and 1982. The reissue allows listeners to experience the band’s fusion of traditional African rhythms with jazz and funk elements.
