Milwaukee’s Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs has announced a call for artists to participate in the Bronzeville 2024 Artwalk. The event, part of Bronzeville Week (August 3rd – 10th), invites high school, college, professional, and amateur artists to submit works that interpret the theme “Evolve & Emerge.”
Artists can showcase their creations in various businesses throughout Bronzeville Week, culminating in a capstone event on August 10th. Each artist may submit up to three pieces for consideration, with the submission deadline set for Sunday, July 21st.
“The Bronzeville Week Artwalk is always a fantastic display of the wealth of local artists that live right here in Milwaukee,” Alderwoman Coggs stated. She emphasized the potential of the “Evolve and Emerge” theme to inspire diverse artistic interpretations across all mediums.
Key dates for the event include:
Submission Deadline: July 21st, 2024
Bronzeville Week: August 3rd – 10th, 2024
Capstone Gallery Showcase: August 10th, 2024
The Artwalk offers additional incentives for young artists, with high school and college-age participants eligible for supplies scholarships. Winners of these scholarships will be announced at the August 10th capstone gallery event.
Community engagement is a central aspect of the Artwalk. Residents can vote for their favorite pieces by visiting participating host businesses or casting votes online. To encourage local business support, votes accompanied by a business receipt receive a 10x multiplier.
To assist artists in preparing their submissions, organizers are hosting “The Lab” – open office hours on July 7th, 14th, and 21st. These sessions provide a workspace for artists to finalize their pieces before the submission deadline. Interested artists must RSVP, as spots are limited.
The Bronzeville 2024 Artwalk aims to serve as a platform for artist recognition and community appreciation. It provides an avenue for showcasing and purchasing artwork, supporting local creative talent and fostering community engagement.
