Sherman Phoenix has unveiled plans for its first-ever event, “The Retreat,” scheduled for November 1-3, 2024, at the Sheraton Brookfield. This three-day gathering aims to provide a comprehensive experience for the regional BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) community, focusing on empowerment, education, and wellness promotion.
Peggy Williams-Smith of Visit Milwaukee supported the event, stating, “The Retreat aligns with County Executive David Crowley’s approach to addressing health disparities in Milwaukee. Dr. Stacia Thompson and the Sherman Phoenix team have developed an event that offers valuable information and activities promoting wellness for our BIPOC community.”
The Retreat’s program encompasses several key areas:
Entrepreneurship: Providing resources for BIPOC business owners
Financial Wellness: Offering education to enhance financial literacy
Physical Wellness: Featuring health and fitness programs
Mental Wellness: Raising awareness and reducing stigma around mental health
Additional features of the event include:
A marketplace for BIPOC-owned businesses
Transportation options to improve accessibility
A Health, Wellness, and Financial Expo showcasing local organizations
The event structure includes a main stage, expo area, marketplace, breakout sessions, panels, and entertainment, with participation from local and national influencers. Collaborations with Culture X Design and the Milwaukee Wine Academy aim to enhance the overall experience.
The organizers are currently seeking sponsorship and expo opportunities from businesses and organizations. Additionally, a call for proposals is open for presenters interested in sharing their expertise.
