As we roll into the second week of September 2024, we have curated a selection of new releases. From Babyface Ray’s ambitious hip-hop odyssey to Lady Blackbird’s soulful jazz compositions, Foushee’s genre-bending alt-R&B, and Talib Kweli & J. Rawls’ lyrical hip-hop collaboration, this week’s lineup offers something for every music enthusiast.

We’re also excited about Terrace Martin’s innovative beats, LSDXOXO’s provocative debut, Nilufer Yanya’s introspective indie rock, Allysha Joy’s heartfelt neo-soul, Nidia & Valentina’s percussive electronic experiments, and JSWISS’s long-awaited return to hip-hop. Here’s our roundup of the 10 must-listen new albums for September 13th.

Babyface Ray – “The Kid That Did”

Detroit’s own Babyface Ray is back with his fourth studio album, a 20-track journey through his rise in the rap game. Featuring collaborations with Fabolous, Hunxho, G Herbo, and fellow Detroit native Veeze, “The Kid That Did” is a blueprint for Ray’s continued ascent in hip-hop.

Foushee – “Pointy Heights”

New York-based alt-R&B artist Fousheé returns with her third studio album via RCA Records. Following up on her 2022 release “softCORE,” “Pointy Heights” showcases Fousheé’s evolving sound, blending groovy production with sparse, deconstructed reggae influences.

Lady Blackbird – “Slang Spirituals”

Jazz sensation Lady Blackbird delivers her sophomore album, featuring mostly original compositions. Building on the critical acclaim of her debut “Black Acid Soul,” this release promises to further cement her status as a rising star in contemporary jazz.

Talib Kweli & J. Rawls – “The Confidence of Knowing”

Hip-hop veterans Talib Kweli and J. Rawls join forces for a 13-track collaborative album. Expect thoughtful lyricism and soulful production from these respected artists, with tracks that pay homage to hip-hop culture while offering social commentary.

Terrace Martin – “Nintindo Soul”

Multi-instrumentalist Terrace Martin follows up last year’s “I Left My Heart in Ladera” with a beat-driven album featuring guests like Cautious Clay. Drawing from Martin’s extensive experience in jazz and hip-hop, “Nintindo Soul” promises a rich tapestry of sounds.

LSDXOXO – “DOGMA”

Philadelphia-born, Berlin-based artist LSDXOXO drops his highly anticipated debut album. Released through his own imprint, Fantasy Audio Group, “DOGMA” explores themes of fame, infamy, and lust with a futuristic approach to pop music.

Nilufer Yanya – “My Method Actor”

London-born songwriter Nilüfer Yanya’s third studio album showcases her growth and introspection. Co-produced by Will Archer, this 11-track collection blends indie, psychedelia, and jazz influences to explore existential themes.

Allysha Joy – “The Making of Silk”

Melbourne’s Allysha Joy presents her third solo album, a self-produced exploration of compassionate love. Featuring rich string arrangements and layers of vocal harmony, “The Making of Silk” promises a soulful journey through neo-soul and jazz-adjacent territories.

Nidia & Valentina – “Estradas”

Afro-Portuguese producer Nídia collaborates with multi-instrumentalist Valentina Magaletti on this percussive dance music project. “Estradas” blends Magaletti’s instrumental skills with Nídia’s beat-making prowess for an innovative sonic experience.

JSWISS – “You Never Really Know”

Rapper JSWISS returns with his first solo album in five years, featuring an impressive lineup of collaborators. Known for his thoughtful lyricism and genre-merging style, this 13-track project is already generating buzz in the hip-hop community.
