Milwaukee native Silas Short shares new song 'L-Train'

Milwaukee native Silas Short has released his latest single, “L-Train,” on Stones Throw Records. A follow-up to his single “ILIKEU,” the track showcases Short’s versatility as an artist, being the first time he both raps and sings over his production. “L-Train” pays homage to Short’s formative years in Chicago, where he developed his unique sound. A laid-back, minimalist approach characterizes the song’s arrangement. A warm electric guitar with a lo-fi texture anchors the track, complemented by subtle percussion and bass.

Short’s soulful vocals, particularly his emotive falsetto, blend seamlessly with the instrumentation, evoking a sense of nostalgia and introspection. The lyrics explore various perspectives of train passengers, inspired by Short’s own experiences on public transport. The accompanying video, co-directed by Short and Jackie Radinsky, was filmed in a single day throughout Chicago, capturing the essence of urban observation. Short, who performed at last year’s HYFIN’s Anti-Gala, continues to build on his musical journey that spans Milwaukee, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
