Black Women in Food (BWIF) announced its 2025 awards nomination period to recognize contributions in the food industry. The organization seeks nominations until December 18, 2024. Founded by Maame Boakye and Nina Oduro through Dine Diaspora, BWIF addresses advancement opportunities for professionals of color. The organization works to create programs supporting diversity in food-focused careers.
The awards span nine categories, each targeting specific sectors of the food and beverage industry. The Amplifier category recognizes journalists, authors, and content creators who share food narratives. Beverage Masters include sommeliers, mixologists, and brewers who advance industry education and creativity. Corporate Champions work in the private sector to develop sustainable food systems.
The Creator category celebrates food bloggers, stylists, and product entrepreneurs. Culinarians showcase cooking expertise through professional or self-taught methods. Game Changers use their positions to create policy changes and community improvements. Innovators develop new tools and technologies to address food system challenges.
The Restaurateur category highlights business owners who operate establishments from food trucks to traditional restaurants. Trailblazers receive recognition for establishing new paths in the industry. A panel of industry experts will evaluate all submissions. BWIF will announce winners in March 2025 during Women’s History Month.
The organization maintains a global scope, accepting nominations for Black women worldwide. This approach aligns with BWIF’s mission to support industry-wide equity.
