Producer Madlib loses home and music collection in LA wildfires

Hip-hop producer Madlib has lost his Altadena home, decades of music, and equipment in the devastating Los Angeles wildfires that continue to ravage the region. The fires, which ignited last week in the Pacific Palisades area, have rapidly spread to multiple regions including Altadena, Studio City, and Runyon Canyon.

A fundraising campaign has been launched by LOVElikeWATER, a nonprofit organization co-founded by Madlib’s manager Stacy Epps, to help the producer and his family rebuild. The initiative has gained support from prominent figures in the hip-hop community, including DJ Premier and Flying Lotus, who have shared the donation link across social media platforms.

The Palisades fire, which has consumed over 23,000 acres and remains only partially contained, has affected numerous musicians and residents. The music industry has responded with support, as MusiCares and the Recording Academy have initiated the Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort, pledging $1 million to assist affected music professionals.

Madlib joins a growing list of musicians who have lost their homes in these fires, including DIIV’s Zachary Cole Smith, rapper Fat Tony, and Empress Of. The destruction has been particularly devastating for Madlib, who lost his home and decades of accumulated music and equipment that helped shape his contributions to hip-hop culture.

The fires continue to pose a significant threat to the Los Angeles area, with the Palisades fire at just 14 percent containment and the Eaton fire at 33 percent as of Monday morning. Emergency response teams remain active across the region as residents grapple with the widespread destruction.

Those wishing to support Madlib’s recovery can contribute through the official fundraising campaign, with all donations being tax-deductible and going directly to the producer and his family.
