5 must-listen new albums FROM Nao, SAINt JHN, and more

As February draws to a close, this week’s releases span an impressive range of genres. From Nao’s soulful comeback and SAINt JHN’s festival-ready anthems to Qontinue’s introspective hip-hop, Wrong Way Up’s Afro-synth explorations, and Blockhead’s veteran production, this diverse collection showcases both established artists making triumphant returns and emerging talents crafting unique sonic identities. Here are five albums worth adding to your rotation this week.

Nao – Jupiter

British singer-songwriter Nao returns with her fourth studio album “Jupiter,” marking a significant artistic evolution following her battle with chronic fatigue syndrome. Recorded in Los Angeles, the album demonstrates her versatility as she navigates through various musical styles with confidence. From the optimistic “Happy People” to the more intimate “Poolside” and the unexpected country influences on “30 Something,” Nao collaborates with producers Loxe and Stint to create a sound that manages to feel both contemporary and timeless. This release, supported by an extensive tour across the UK, Europe, and North America, represents a new chapter in her career.

SAINt JHN – FESTIVAL SEASON

After nearly five years since his last album, Guyanese-American artist SAINt JHN delivers “FESTIVAL SEASON,” an 18-track collection designed to capture the energy of live performances. Working with producers including Tay Keith, ATL Jacob, and Tommy Brown, the album blends rap, R&B, alternative, and Afrofusion elements. Standout tracks include the Tay Keith-produced “Poppin,” the rock-influenced “Body on Me,” and the emotionally resonant “Loneliness.” This release serves as the first half of a two-part project called Collection II, with its companion piece “Fake Tears From A Popstar” scheduled to follow his upcoming tour.

Qontinue – A Mother’s Touch

Emerging artist Qontinue explores maternal relationships and familial bonds in their new album “A Mother’s Touch.” The 12-track project showcases their development as both producer and lyricist, with production that combines lo-fi elements with contemporary hip-hop approaches. The lead single “Cradle” considers how maternal influence shapes our world, a theme that runs throughout the album. Featuring collaborations with several underground producers and vocalists, the project moves between warm, analog-inspired beats and more experimental electronic textures while maintaining a consistent narrative about maternal love and personal growth.

Wrong Way Up – Totally Right

Melbourne-based Afro-synth duo Wrong Way Up, comprising Emmanuela Degery and Andrew Phillips, releases their debut album “Totally Right” through Soundway Records. Drawing inspiration from vintage Afro disco and psychedelic boogie, the album pays homage to artists like Frances Bebey, William Onyeabor, and Lijadu Sisters. Degery’s distinctive vocals combine with Phillips’ vintage synthesizers and drum machines to create an engaging sonic landscape. Standout tracks like “Sweet Sweet Music” and “Full Blast” exemplify their balanced approach to production. Having already performed at notable festivals including Glastonbury and WOMAD UK, the duo continues to develop their unique fusion of Afro-synth elements with contemporary dance sensibilities.

Blockhead – It’s Only A Midlife Crisis If Your Life is Mid

Veteran New York producer Blockhead continues his consistent output with “It’s Only A Midlife Crisis If Your Life is Mid.” A respected figure in underground hip-hop for over two decades, Blockhead maintains his characteristic sample-based production style while continuing to evolve artistically. Known for his comprehensive approach to album creation, each track typically features multiple beats woven together, effectively making the album a reflection of his recent creative period. The album title has resonated with many fans, becoming something of a motto for those navigating middle age with purpose rather than crisis. This release demonstrates Blockhead’s commitment to his artistic vision rather than chasing trends.
