Little Simz announces new album “Lotus” and drops single “Flood”

HYFIN Verified artist Little Simz has announced her sixth studio album, “Lotus,” which will be released via AWAL Recordings on May 9th, 2025. The acclaimed UK rapper has also unveiled the album’s first single, “Flood,” a collaboration featuring longtime musical partners Obongjayar and Moonchild Sanelly.

The new single showcases Simz’s distinctive style with production by Miles Clinton James. “Flood” has been described as a brooding punk-rap track where Simz delivers what some are calling a career-defining sermon that is both purifying and devastating. The song is accompanied by a striking visual directed by filmmaker Salomon Ligthelm.

According to promotional materials, “Lotus” symbolizes renewal and growth, reflecting Simz’s artistic evolution and the album’s exploration of life’s complex phases. This release follows her Mercury Prize and BRIT award-winning album “Sometimes I Might Be Introvert” from 2021, her 2022 project “NO THANK YOU,” and last year’s electronic-focused EP “Drop 7.”.

In “Flood,” Simz addresses her critics with a whispered flow and powerful lyrics, culminating in the third verse where she offers guidance: “Number three, take care of yourself/ Be vigilant, mind who you help/ You pray you can make it heaven/ And they’re tryna drag you to hell.”

Beyond the album announcement, Little Simz is also set to curate the 30th edition of London’s Meltdown Festival at the Southbank Centre. The festival will run from June 12-22, 2025, with Simz promising “eleven days of art, music, workshops and more.” She joins an illustrious list of previous curators, following Chaka Khan in 2024 and Christine & the Queens in 2023.
