8 new must-listen albums from Andre 3000, Kali Uchis, billy woods and more

This week’s music releases showcase impressive diversity, from billy woods’ thought-provoking hip-hop to PinkPantheress’s concise pop creations. Notable entries include André 3000’s continued exploration of instrumental music, Erika de Casier’s independent return, and Kali Uchis’ heartfelt reflections. Brandon’s debut soul offering, Jazzanova’s live jazz reimagining, and Chaos in the CBD’s house music journey are rounding out the selections.

billy woods – GOLLIWOG

Billy Woods returns with his first solo project since 2019’s Terror Management. Released through Rhymesayers Entertainment, GOLLIWOG explores thoughtful themes of systemic injustice and historical trauma. The album features production from The Alchemist, EL-P, and Kenny Segal, creating a cohesive yet varied soundscape. Woods addresses challenging topics with a clear-eyed perspective, while moments of musical respite balance the project’s intensity. Critics have recognized the album for its artistic vision and insightful commentary.

PinkPantheress – Fancy That

British artist PinkPantheress delivers a nine-track mixtape spanning just over 20 minutes, returning to the concise, sample-rich style that initially brought her attention. Fancy That effectively blends nostalgic elements with contemporary sensibilities, incorporating Underworld and Basement Jaxx samples. Her deliberate choice of brief song formats challenges traditional structures while maintaining emotional impact. The project reinforces her distinctive voice in modern pop music, demonstrating her ability to craft meaningful yet accessible compositions.

Jazzanova – In Between Revisited: Jazzanova Live

Berlin-based collective Jazzanova commemorates the 20th anniversary of their influential debut In Between with a thoughtful live reinterpretation. Recorded at Little Big Beat Studios in Liechtenstein, this project features the Jazzanova Live Band performing the album with a skillful blend of electronic elements and live instrumentation. Vocal contributions from Clara Hill, Wayne Snow, and Heen Maartens enhance tracks like “No Use” and “That Night.” The album demonstrates Jazzanova’s continued influence in the nu-jazz genre while showing their commitment to musical evolution.

André 3000 – 7 Piano Sketches

Following his 2023 album New Blue Sun, André 3000 presents a 16-minute EP of improvisational piano pieces. These seven compositions, primarily recorded over a decade ago using an iPhone, were initially shared only with close friends and family. The release coincided with André’s Met Gala appearance, where he wore a Steinway piano replica on his back. 7 Piano Sketches embraces a straightforward, unpolished aesthetic that prioritizes authentic expression over technical complexity, offering listeners insight into his artistic journey.

Erika de Casier – Lifetime

Erika de Casier’s surprise fourth studio album marks a return to her independent roots, released through her own label, Independent Jeep Music. Written and produced solely by de Casier between August 2023 and November 2024, Lifetime explores themes of time, mortality, and self-reflection across 11 tracks. The album blends elements of trip-hop and R&B with de Casier’s characteristic soft vocals and understated production. Critics have noted the project’s consistent sound and emotional depth, showcasing her growth as an independent artist.

Kali Uchis – Sincerely,

Kali Uchis’ fifth studio album emerges from significant personal changes, including motherhood and loss. Released through Capitol Records, this 14-track collection reflects grief, healing, and self-discovery. Sincerely, combines R&B and dream pop elements, guided by Uchis’ distinctive vocals. The lead single “Sunshine & Rain…” incorporates her mother’s voice, while “ILYSMIH” captures the emotions of new motherhood. The album demonstrates Uchis’ artistic development through its genuine expression and cohesive sound.

Brandon – Before You Go

Debut artist Brandon presents an 11-track collection exploring the complexities of relationships and personal growth. Created entirely in his home studio, Before You Go showcases his talents as a singer, songwriter, and producer of Trinidadian descent from Riverside, California. Standout tracks include “Right Back,” which examines toxic relationships, and “Seeing Stars,” capturing nostalgic yearning. Brandon blends soul, R&B, and alternative pop elements throughout the album, creating music that feels both current and timeless in its emotional honesty.

Chaos in the CBD – A Deeper Life

New Zealand-born, London-based brothers Louis and Ben Helliker-Hales release their debut album after over a decade of musical development. A Deeper Life features collaborations with saxophonist Nathan Haines, grime MC Novelist, and vocalist Stephanie Cooke across its 14 tracks. Drawing inspiration from their Auckland upbringing, the duo effectively balances relaxed ambience and energetic club rhythms. The project demonstrates their growth as artists while paying tribute to their roots through thoughtful production and diverse musical influences.
