NPR Music announced May 30 its Black Music Month 2025 programming will honor landmark album anniversaries. The platform will highlight nine artists spanning multiple genres throughout June. The celebration includes special Tiny Desk Concerts and the return of Tiny Talks. The short-form artist interviews will appear on social media platforms.
Bobby Carter, Tiny Desk Concerts host and producer, developed the anniversary concept. Carter cited Chaka Khan’s 2024 performance as inspiration for the programming approach.
Keyshia Cole will celebrate 20 years of “The Way It Is.” The R&B singer’s debut album launched her recording career.
E-40 marks 30 years of “In a Major Way.” The Bay Area rapper’s album helped establish West Coast hip-hop prominence.
CeCe Winans celebrates 30 years of “Alone in His Presence.” The gospel album earned multiple Grammy Awards for the vocalist.
Living Colour observes 35 years of “Time’s Up.” The rock band’s second album addressed social and political themes.
Stanley Clarke marks 50 years of “School Days.” The jazz bassist’s album became a fusion music landmark.
Additional anniversaries include Amerie with The Backyard Band’s “Touch” at 20 years.
Wiz Khalifa celebrates 15 years of “Kush & Orange Juice.”
Beenie Man reaches 25 years with “Art and Life.”
Alex Isley marks 10 years of “LUXURY.”
The programming spans genres from soul to contemporary hip-hop. Carter described the featured artists as crown jewels in Black culture. The Tiny Desk Concert series reaches over 20 million viewers monthly. The platform generates more than 45 million views each month.
