Carvd N Stone (CNS), a Milwaukee-based news company and marketing agency, has announced that applications are now open for its third annual $1,000 Travel Writing Scholarship. The scholarship aims to support aspiring travel writers in Milwaukee.
Applicants must be Milwaukee residents between the ages of 17 and 29 to be eligible. They must submit an 800-word essay on the theme: “What lessons have you learned while traveling that you’ve implemented in your everyday life and why?”
The scholarship is named after the late Loren Martin Hintz, an accomplished journalist known for his work at the Milwaukee Sentinel and his involvement with the Society of American Travel Writers. His son, Steve Hintz, approached CNS Founder Nyesha Stone with the idea of establishing the scholarship to support local writers.
Previous scholarship recipients include Sean Horton in 2023 and Morgan Coleman in 2022.
Applications opened on April 17, 2024, at 9 a.m. CST and will close on May 17, 2024, at noon CST. Interested individuals can find the application on the CNS website.
Founded in 2017, CNS has grown from a local Milwaukee news outlet to a company with national and international reach. In addition to reporting positive news stories, CNS provides marketing services to notable clients such as the Public Health Accreditation Board and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.
The Loren Martin Hintz Travel Writing Scholarship is one way CNS gives back to the Milwaukee community and supports the next generation of writers. As the application period begins, aspiring travel writers can reflect on their journeys and potentially earn support for their future endeavors.
