Milwaukee’s rap scene has long been an unsung hero in the eyes of the mainstream. However, if you haven’t heard, the city’s rap scene is exploding into the mainstream. Myaap, one of Milwaukee’s talented artists, infuses the city’s signature lowend sound with her unique brand of swagger and energy.
On the heels of her recent stint opening for Veeze on the second leg of his Ganger Tour, Myaap has announced the May 31st release of her upcoming EP, “YOP!”, and shared its lead single, “Rotation”. The track features production from prolific Goth Money producer Nedarb, known for his work with artists like Black Kray, Lil Peep, and the $uicideboy$. The collaboration between Myaap and Nedarb is an exciting fusion of two distinct worlds, with Nedarb’s signature sound meshing seamlessly with Myaap’s undeniable Milwaukee bounce.
“Rotation” is a testament to Myaap’s diversity and growing hunger as an artist. Over a twinkling piano melody, booming bassline, and insistent clapping rhythm, Myaap delivers a high-energy performance filled with stream-of-conscious raps and a mesmerizing hook. Lines like “All blues on me, Ben Franklin face / Better play it cool, better keep it safe / Money piling up, running out of space” showcase her charismatic bar work, while the hook, “Bap bap, throw that ass in rotation / Make it clap like a standing ovation”, is sure to get crowds moving.
The upcoming “YOP!” EP follows Myaap’s recently released “BIG MYAAP, NOT THE LIL ONE“, which earned her praise from The FADER as “a force to be reckoned with, effortlessly switching between melodic hooks and uncut bars”. With over 6 million streams to her name and a growing cult-like following, Myaap is quickly becoming one of Milwaukee’s most exciting new voices.
As she continues to make waves in the rap world, Myaap is set to perform at MIKE’s upcoming Young World Festival alongside Earl Sweatshirt, further cementing her status as one to watch. With “Rotation” serving as a tantalizing preview of what’s to come on “YOP!”, it’s clear that Myaap is poised for big things shortly. Keep an eye out for the full EP when it drops on May 31st.
