Silas Short, a Milwaukee-born artist and HYFIN Verified musician, has released his latest single, “ILIKEU,” through Stones Throw Records. This marks Short’s first musical offering since his 2021 EP “Drawing,” signaling the talented songwriter’s return to the recording scene.
The track’s production style draws comparisons to early D’Angelo works, featuring a smooth, soulful sound. Accompanying the single is a music video directed by Jackie Radisnky, which presents a visual homage to the iconic 1979 Maxell advertisement. In the video, Short is seen interacting with a cassette deck and seated in a chair, evoking the memorable imagery of the classic commercial.
Short’s musical style has been shaped by personal experience. At 19, an injury to his left hand led him to develop what has been termed a “liquid style” of guitar playing and production. This adaptation has become a notable aspect of his musical identity, demonstrating his ability to innovate in response to challenges. In 2023, Silas Short and Madison McFerrin performed at the inaugural HYFIN Anti-Gala. As Short releases new material, anticipation builds for his forthcoming debut album.
