5 must-listen new albums: Tinashe, noCap, We Are Scorpio & more

This week’s musical landscape offers a diverse array of new releases, showcasing the talents of both established and emerging artists. HYFIN’s must-listen new albums of the week feature works from Tinashe, Joya Mooi, Rosie Lowe, Junecinema, We Are Scorpio, and NoCap. Each project brings its unique flavor to the table, promising listeners a rich and varied auditory experience.

Tinashe – “Quantum Baby”

Tinashe continues to push boundaries with her seventh studio album, “Quantum Baby.” The 8-track project, clocking in at 22 minutes, serves as the second installment of her planned “BB/Ang3l” trilogy. Building on the momentum of her viral hit “Nasty,” Tinashe delivers a concise yet impactful collection that showcases her willingness to take sonic risks. Tracks like “Getting No Sleep” and “Thirsty” stand out for their innovative production, while songs such as “Cross the Line” and “When I Get You Alone” highlight Tinashe’s ability to blend her vocals with the beats effortlessly.

Rosie Lowe – “Lover, Other”

British singer Rosie Lowe’s third studio album, “Lover, Other,” represents a significant evolution in her artistry. The 15-track, 49-minute album traverses various genres, from sultry bossa nova to energetic breakbeats and ethereal synth landscapes. Lowe’s commanding vocals adapt seamlessly to each musical backdrop, with standout tracks like “Sundown” and “Don’t Go” showcasing her vocal prowess. The album’s cohesive yet diverse nature has garnered praise from early reviews, solidifying Lowe’s position in the British soul scene.

Junecinema – “Perseverance”

Underground duo Junecinema, consisting of NC’s JUNE! and NY’s Jay Cinema, presents “Perseverance,” an album that blends soulful sounds with heartfelt lyricism. The project features collaborations with artists like Yung Dread Da Prophet, and production is primarily handled by Chow (MA). The contrast between JUNE!’s low, raspy delivery and Jay Cinema’s bright, bounding style creates a dynamic interplay throughout the album, offering listeners a compelling auditory experience.

We Are Scorpio – “We Are Scorpio”

We Are Scorpio, a collaboration between poet jessica Care moore and rock singer Steffanie Christi’an, introduces their self-titled debut. This project challenges preconceptions about rock music, blending hard rock with poetic elements to create a unique black rock aesthetic. The duo’s explosive and fiery style promises to deliver an unapologetic and passionate musical statement.

NoCap – “Before I Disappear Again”

NoCap’s sophomore album, “Before I Disappear Again, ” rounds out the week’s releases.” The Mobile, Alabama-based rapper and singer’s 23-track project follows a series of successful mixtapes and singles. Lead tracks like “Baby Drake,” “Yacht Party,” and “Maliboo” offer a glimpse into NoCap’s evolving sound, which combines melodic delivery with introspective lyrics.
