MF DOOM’s groundbreaking album “MM..FOOD” celebrates its 20th anniversary with a special reissue. Rhymesayers Entertainment plans to release the deluxe edition on November 15, 2024, honoring the late artist’s innovative blend of humor, wit, and social commentary.

Before donning the metal mask, DOOM was known as Zev Love X in the influential Golden Era rap group K.M.D. Formed in the late 1980s, K.M.D made waves with their socially conscious lyrics and innovative sound. Their debut album, “Mr. Hood,” gained critical acclaim, showcasing Zev Love X’s early lyrical prowess. Tragedy struck when DOOM’s brother DJ Subroc, also a K.M.D member, died in 1993. This loss and label issues surrounding their second album led to K.M.D’s dissolution. DOOM disappeared from the rap scene, reemerging with his new persona years later.

The repackaged “MM..FOOD” album features entirely new artwork by Sam Rodriguez, offering fans a fresh visual experience while preserving the iconic soundscape. The digital deluxe version includes the original tracklist plus rare remixes and previously unreleased interview clips with DOOM, providing insight into his creative process.

You can now stream Madlib’s remix of “One Beer,” offering a new perspective on the classic track. The digital deluxe edition also features remixes by Jake One and Ant, showcasing DOOM’s work through different production lenses.

A limited deluxe edition of the 20th-anniversary vinyl is available exclusively on gasdrawls.com. The MM..FOOD deluxe 2xLP picture disc vinyl comes in a 12″ tip-on case-wrapped matte gatefold jacket with anti-scratch lamination and silver foil stamped numbering. The package includes a bonus 7″ picture disc vinyl featuring the rare original version of “Kookies” and the Just Blaze remix, housed in a custom kraft paper pastry sleeve with a plastic window. A QR code sticker links to an MM..FOOD Diner AR experience, adding an interactive element to the release.

The classic “Hoe Cakes” 12-inch single will be reissued on “bug juice blend” colored vinyl. This release includes the original track, “Potholderz” featuring Count Bass D, and the “Hoe Cakes Remix” by Ant, along with instrumentals. “Hoe Cakes,” named after pre-colonial American cornmeal patties, is one of DOOM’s most unique tracks and exemplifies his ability to blend culinary references with sharp lyricism.

An exclusive Super7 Collectible is available for pre-order. The MF DOOM ReAction Figure & Cereal Bowl Set draws inspiration from the MM..FOOD album cover. It comes in cereal box-style packaging with a cut-out mask puzzle. The set includes a 3.75″ scale DOOM figure with a microphone accessory, a 33 oz. capacity cereal bowl, and a spoon featuring DOOM’s mask and logo details.

DOOM’s estate is also releasing a limited apparel line to commemorate the anniversary. Fans can purchase MM..FOOD inspired shirts, hooded sweatshirts, hats, aprons, tote bags, slipmats, mugs, and more on gasdrawls.com.

MF DOOM, born Daniel Dumile, revolutionized hip-hop with his complex lyricism and innovative production. His influence spans both underground and mainstream rap scenes. DOOM’s unique approach to storytelling and wordplay set him apart in the hip-hop landscape, building on the foundation he laid during his time with K.M.D.

“MM..FOOD” showcases DOOM’s singular style, using food metaphors to explore themes of vice, sex, violence, and jealousy. The album’s tracklist includes fan favorites like “Beef Rapp,” “Hoe Cakes,” “Potholderz,” and “Rapp Snitch Knishes.” Each track demonstrates DOOM’s ability to weave intricate narratives with clever wordplay, a skill he honed from his early days as Zev Love X.

The album opens with “Beef Rapp,” setting the tone with its food-centric metaphors. DOOM uses the concept of beef to comment on rap feuds, drawing parallels between unhealthy diets and toxic industry practices. This approach exemplifies DOOM’s knack for social commentary wrapped in clever conceits, a thematic evolution from his work with K.M.D.

“Hoe Cakes” and “Potholderz” showcase DOOM’s production skills, blending unconventional samples with hard-hitting beats. These tracks highlight his ability to create cohesive soundscapes that complement his lyrical dexterity, a talent that matured significantly since his K.M.D days.

The Madlib-produced “One Beer” stands out as a collaboration between two hip-hop innovators. Its inclusion in the anniversary edition and the new remix underscores the track’s enduring appeal and DOOM’s collaborative spirit.

DOOM’s legacy continues to shape contemporary hip-hop. His work opened new creative possibilities for MCs and producers alike. The masked persona he adopted added an element of mystique to his public image, further cementing his iconic status in hip-hop culture. This transformation from Zev Love X to MF DOOM represents a name change and an artistic rebirth that profoundly impacted the genre.

The anniversary release of “MM..FOOD” cements its status as a pivotal album in hip-hop history. It is a testament to DOOM’s enduring artistic vision and ability to create a world within his music, bridging his past as a member of K.M.D with his solo career as MF DOOM.

“MM..FOOD” remains a touchstone for artists and fans alike. Its reissue allows a new generation to discover DOOM’s genius while offering longtime fans a fresh way to engage with the material. From his early days in K.M.D to his reign as the masked villain of hip-hop, DOOM’s journey is a testament to his resilience, creativity, and enduring impact on the genre.
