Grace Weber is in full bloom with new album, ‘Paperflower’

Grace Weber’s career is in full bloom on her latest album “Paperflower”. Her name has always been associated with soulful melodies and heartfelt lyrics, but this project takes her artistry to new heights. Released today (Sept. 29), the album gives all the things you’d expect: romance, tight harmonies and moments that make you look inward for answers to how you found the perfect, supportive and unwavering love of your life. It picks up where Tweet and Missy Elliott’s ode to self-love, “Oops (Oh My)” left off. “Lonely” is an homage to self-pleasure in the most unapologetic way that I heard outside of Janelle Monae’s, “The Art of Pleasure”, while on “Permission” Weber challenges Ro James’ hit single of the same name, for sensual supremacy. “Permission” features Secily & Jean Deaux and they do not disappoint.

“Awake” explores vulnerability and the delicate nature of human relationships. On this song, Weber explores how simply being there, wide awake and present for your partner can give them space to vent, cry and heal. Her lyrics are deeply introspective, and her delivery is nothing short of mesmerizing. This track is bound to resonate with anyone who has experienced the fragility of loving a creative.

Do4Me video

As the album unfolds, we’re treated to a diverse range of musical collaborations that are perfectly executed. “Do4Me” brings a R&B groove that’s impossible not to sway along to. She then taps Canadian, Nigerian artist TOBi to join her on the track “Super Good” which reassures listeners that “It’s all gone be alright, we got this”. Bat Boy Bankie is a guest on the smooth and sultry ” No Worries” and James Vickery and Grace both shine on this album’s final track, “We Are”.

Weber’s versatility as an artist is on full display throughout the album and each track feels like a new facet of her musical identity. “Paperflower” isn’t just about love and relationships, it’s also about self-empowerment and growth.
