HYFIN’s Brown, Black & Brews: The 5th Ingredient introduces the Milwaukee area to brews from Black & Brown owned breweries from around the country. It will include over 10 breweries as well as Milwaukee’s own My Soul Brew Kombucha – the first female Black-owned brewer in Wisconsin. The 5th ingredient is a nod to brewers who know it takes 4 ingredients to brew beer. What’s missing? Culture, the 5th ingredient.
Wisconsin is the home of the first Black owned brewery (People’s Brewery) founded by Theodore Mack, Sr., and we are proud to announce that Saturday, August 26th will be proclaimed Theodore Mack, Sr Day! You might even catch his son, Theodore Mack Jr, checking out samples if you pop by that day.
In a state known for beer, there is little to no Black or Brown representation. HYFIN is working to change that and is looking forward to the growth that this 2nd annual event will bring.
Special VIP Admission Noon-1:00pm offering exclusive tastings, swag bag with HYFIN Brown, Black & Brews t-shirt, raffle and personal tasting glass
General Admission 1:00-4:00pm offering tastings from all the breweries, raffle and personal tasting glass
Pilot Project Brewing in Milwaukee’s Westown neighborhood will host the event. Started in Chicago, Pilot Project Brewing opened a Milwaukee tasting room and brewhouse in November 2022. Located in the former home of Milwaukee Brewing Co., the new site contains a full kitchen and an expansive production facility.
Beyond their own beer production, Pilot Project aims to be a resource for new breweries, especially minority-owned breweries that face additional hurdles in the start-up phase. Their model is based on the music industry, offering assistance with fine-tuning recipes, production scaling, business development, marketing, distribution and more.
