Netflix has finally confirmed the highly anticipated release date for its upcoming animated comedy series, “Good Times.” The series is set to revive the classic 1970s sitcom. According to What’s On Netflix, the streaming giant has also unveiled two new images from the show, further building excitement among fans.
The project, first announced in September 2020, has been in the works for some time. Carl Jones, best known for his work on “The Boondocks” and co-creator Ranada Shepard of “Born Again Virgin” fame, is the creative force behind the reboot. The show boasts an impressive list of executive producers, including Norman Lear, Seth MacFarlane, Erica Huggins, Brent Millar, Erick Peyton, Brent Miller, and Stephen Curry.
MacFarlane and Huggins expressed their enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Animation is the ideal medium with which to reimagine the original show, and through the lens of Carl’s sharp, biting humor, audiences will grow to love these classic characters all over again.”
Netflix’s official synopsis teases an edgy and irreverent take on the original series. It focuses on a new generation of the Evans family as they navigate life in a Chicago housing project.
The voice cast features an impressive lineup of talent, including Jay Pharoah (“Saturday Night Live,” “The Blackening”) as Junior, Marsai Martin (“Little,” “Black-Ish”) as Grey, Yvette Nicole Brown (“Community”) as Beverly, Gerald Anthony ‘Slink’ Johnson (“Grand Theft Auto”) as Dalvin, and JB Smoove (“Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Blockbuster”) as Reggie. The series is a collaboration between Sony Pictures Television, Fuzzy Door Productions, Act III Productions, and Unanimous Media.
