Michael Kiwanuka returns with new single "Floating Parade"

Acclaimed British singer-songwriter Michael Kiwanuka has unveiled his latest single, “Floating Parade,” through Geffen Records. This release follows Kiwanuka’s recent return to live performances, including a notable appearance on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival last month, where he introduced the new track to audiences.

“Floating Parade” features a steady bass line, orchestral strings, and Kiwanuka’s recognizable vocals. The song reunites the artist with producers Danger Mouse and Inflo, a collaboration that has proven effective on Kiwanuka’s previous two albums.

The lyrics of “Floating Parade” explore the concept of using one’s senses to find escape, particularly in challenging situations. The song’s title serves as a metaphor for mentally removing oneself from difficult circumstances and seeking solace elsewhere, primarily through the power of thought.

Kiwanuka’s previous album, “KIWANUKA,” released in 2019, received critical acclaim and earned him the Mercury Prize in 2020. The record also marked his first Grammy nomination in the Best Rock Album category.

“Floating Parade” is Kiwanuka’s first new music since 2021’s “Beautiful Life,” which was created for the Netflix documentary “Convergence: Courage in a Crisis,” directed by Oscar winner Orlando von Einsiedel.

Looking ahead, Kiwanuka is set to embark on a 14-date co-headline tour of North America with Brittany Howard, beginning in late September. The tour will cover various cities across the United States and Canada, including Toronto, New York, Los Angeles, and Vancouver. Tickets for the upcoming shows are currently available through Kiwanuka’s official website.
